Perth Audiology & Hearing Clinic is an accredited Hearing Services Program Provider.

What does this mean?

If you have an Australian Pension card you may be eligible to access hearing health services from the Hearing Services Program (HSP).

This will mean your services are fully subsidized (covered by the government with no out of pocket cost) to you. It may also mean that some hearing products (like headphones or hearing aids) are also covered by the program. If you are not sure, you can follow the link above to the eligibility checker on the government website or call us to find out more and we can check for you.

At Perth Audiology we welcome all pension card holders to receive our fantastic audiological services. These can include hearing tests, hearing aids, hearing aid fittings and on-going care and services.

Your hearing test may compromise the following:

  • Otoscopy (an examination of your outer ear and ear drum).

  • Tympanometry (a test to understand your middle ear health and how your ear drum moves. This test will tell us if you have a middle ear infection and what type of pressure you have)

  • Acoustic Reflex Threshold (ART) measure (a measure of your stapedial muscle reflex)

  • Extended high frequency audiometry (if required)

  • Speech recognition testing (do your audiometry results match what you hear and can recall)

A detailed report is sent to your referral and/or yourself if you self-referred. This report will form the baseline of your hearing health history if it is your first time getting your hearing checked. If you've had previous hearing tests, this is a good record to keep to track how your hearing is changing over time.

We recommend getting your hearing checked:

  • Annually. Hearing tests should be incorporated into your overall health checks (like prostate, breast, dental, eyes etc)

  • If you work in a noisy industry (hair dresser, dentist, tradie, carpenter, boiler maker etc or with chemicals that can impact your hearing organ)

  • If you are not following the conversation

  • If you are asking for repeats

  • If the volume is creeping up on the TV and radio

  • If you are taking oto-toxic medication (chemotherapy, aminoglycosides)

  • If you have diabetes, cardio-vascular and / or kidney issues (these co-morbidities are linked to the blood flow of your hearing and balance organ. Learn more here).

  • If you are over 50 years, at least once a year (like getting your teeth checked, its a good habit to form to get your hearing checked)

  • If you feel your hearing has changed and you can't hear like you used to

A comprehensive hearing test (not screening) is a good starting point to ensure you follow conversations, stay socially active and keep your brain and mental health in a good state. You can booking your comprehensive hearing test here.

HSP is a federally funded program and we are limited to the services and products that are listed through the program. If any out of pocket fees apply, these will be discussed and emailed to you.
