FAQ
If you can't find answers here, please contact us and we will work with you to support your ear and hearing health needs.
Do I need a GP referral?
A referral isn't necessary to see an audiologist at HCC, however to access the medicare rebate a referral from your GP or specialist is required. A referral will attract a medicare rebate depending on the testing performed on the day and an out of pocket fee is applicable.
I have a pension card, do i get a discount?
If you have a current (not expired) Australian pension card, you may be eligible for fully subsidized Hearing healthcare through the Hearing Services Program (HSP). As we are a HSP accredited service provider we can deliver these services and products to you, most times, without any out of pocket cost to the service. Some hearing products (like hearing aids and certain headphones) are also covered by the program. Please note, only approved products and services on the HSP list are covered.
Is a medicare rebate available for ear wax removal?
There is no medicare rebate for this service at HCC. All fees are payable on the day.
Do you see kids at HCC?
Yes. We love helping kids with their ear and hearing health care. Hearing is a vital sense at all ages, with kiddies it is essential for speech-language development and motor skills (hearing & balance for learning to roll, crawl, move and spatial awareness etc).

We welcome kids from 3yo - however if your little one is younger, please call or text and we can refer you on or see them if they meet certain criteria (respond well to instructions).
Do you see kids at HCC for ear wax removal?
Yes. The youngest we have seen for ear wax removal is 3 years and 20 months. As parents with young children, we pride ourselves on being calm, professional and playful (if needed) for ear wax removal in our youngest clients.

If you are not sure, contact us to discuss your child's 'wriggle factor' and we can work together to support their ear and hearing health.
Is a comprehensive test different from a screening?
Yes. A comprehensive test and report will look at all aspects of the hearing pathway (outer, middle, inner ear and some of your auditory pathways). We are not a clinic that offers free screenings.
Generally, a screening is a tool used to capture your data and only look at a small snapshot of your hearing. It is not always performed by a qualified hearing professional and will only look at a few frequencies on the audiogram. It is important you understand what is being tested or screened when getting your hearing checked. If you are not sure, please ask.
